COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to introduce the student to educational administration and leadership through the study of educational organizations, leadership theory, decision-making and administrative processes.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The student will:
Evidence an understanding of the organization of American and Georgia schools.
Develop a working knowledge of the movement toward educational reform.
Articulate a personal vision for their school and have begun to develop an educational platform.
Gain insights into a school’s culture and school member’s personal hopes and dreams.
Influence and strengthen school culture by modeling core values, communicating values and aligning reward systems with values.
Facilitate direction-setting processes within schools that require a high degree of member participation (e.g., assessing current school culture and values, building a school vision, developing organizational goals and strategies).
Facilitate the development of school improvement efforts.
Identify emerging issues and trends that potentially affect the school community.
